The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon was developed in France in the late 1870’s; buy a Dutchman named Eduard Korthals. This breed was bred to hunt, point, and retrieve in all weather conditions and terrain types. This breed excels in both land and water retrieval.

APPEARANCE(S)

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffons are large yet compact dogs with a square head and drop ears. They have bushy eyebrows and thick short beards. The eyes are yellow-brown and the tail is docked.

COLOR(S)


This breed is most commonly seen in steel gray, chestnut, roan, gray, and white with chestnut markings. It is common to see ticking or roaning throughout the coat.

COAT


The outercoat of the wirehaired pointer griffon is medium to short, wiry, and harsh. The undercoat is thick and dense.

This breed is loyal and loving to their families. They need to be hunting or working. They are quite territorial, and for this they make good watchdogs.

THINGS TO CONSIDER


This pointer does better with some obedience training early in life. They have been known to chase cats and other small animals. They will get into trouble if they are not given a job.

*This is not a good breed for the first time dog owner.
