The Welsh springer spaniel originated in Wales, England sometime in the Middle Ages. This breed was used for flushing and retrieving birds for hunters. The Welsh springer spaniel was and still is considered on of the best bird dogs any hunter could have.

APPEARANCE(S)

Welsh Springer Spaniels are medium sized dogs with a dome shape head and long drop ears. They have round brown or amber eyes, and the tail can be long or docked.

COLOR(S)


This breed is most commonly seen in red and white, liver and white, or orange and white. It is common to see freckles on the face and legs. Like other spaniels they have feathers on the chest, ears, and legs.

COAT


The coat of the Welsh springer spaniel is medium in length. The coat is flat and very soft to the touch. Like other spaniels they have feathers on the chest, ears, and legs.

This breed is loving and playful. They are great with kids and other animals. They have a cheerful disposition and love to be loved on by the family.

THINGS TO CONSIDER


The Welsh springer spaniel is known to bark or howl at will. This breed does need to be groomed on a regular basis, and as with most Spaniels special attention needs to be paid to keeping the ears clean.

IDEAL LIVING SITUATION

This breed would do well in the city with a big yard or country.
