The Weimaraner originated in Germany in the 19th century and they were bred and used for large game hunting. This breed was very popular with the German nobility.

APPEARANCE(S)

Weimaraners are large bodied dogs with a powerful build. They have a high tucked abdomen and a deep chest. The head is broad at the top and the ears are drop. The eyes are usually gold, yellow or light blue, and the tail if often docked.

COLOR(S)


This breed is most commonly seen in various shades silver or grey. They are often referred to as the gray ghost.

COAT


The coat is short and smooth.

Weimaraners love to play games and will demand a lot of the family’s attention. They are great with active kids and do well with other animals. This breed excels at canine sports and bird hunting.

THINGS TO CONSIDER


This breed needs a lot of exercise and needs space to run off the leash. They will bark at strangers and have been known to chase cats. If the Weimaraner does not get enough attention they are likely to develop destructive behavior to get attention.

*This is not a good breed for the first time dog owner.

This breed would do best in the suburbs or country.
