The Sussex spaniel originated in 19th century Sussex England, where they were used as hunting dogs. The Sussex was bred to be smaller and slower than other spaniels to allow the hunters to follow them on foot.

APPEARANCE(S)

The Sussex Spaniels are medium sized dogs with a long back and short legs. The head is broad across the forehead, and the ears are long and droopy. The eyes are gold, amber or light brown, and the tail is docked. The Sussex has a distinctive somber look on the face, but don’t be fooled that are quite cheerful dogs.

COLOR(S)


This breed is most commonly seen in a golden liver color.

COAT


The coat of the Sussex spaniel is medium in length and can be flat or slightly wavy especially on the ears. There is normally feather on the chest, legs and belly.

This breed is loving and caring to the family. They are great with kids and other animals. They have a cheerful disposition and love to be loved on by the family.

THINGS TO CONSIDER


The Sussex spaniel is known to bark or howl at will. This breed does need to be groomed on a regular basis, and as with most Spaniels special attention needs to be paid to keeping the ears clean.
