Standard Schnauzers originated around the 15th century. The Standard Schnauzer is the ancestor to the Standard Schnauzer and the Miniature Schnauzer. This breed was used as guard dogs, rodent dogs and pets.

APPEARANCE(S)

The Standard Schnauzer is a medium size dog with a head that is square and the distinctive eyebrows and mustache. The ears can be cropped or fold over, and the tail is docked.

COLOR(S)


This breed is most commonly seen in black and salt and pepper.

COAT


The coat short and wiry, and is weather resistant.

This breed is very loyal and loving to the family. The Standard Schnauzer is an extremely brave and will not back down if challenged. They love to play and look for their family’s attention. They are generally good with children and other dogs if socialized at an early age.

Standard Schnauzers can get into trouble if they are left alone for to long. They are also known to bark at strangers or to get attention.

The Standard Schnauzer has been used as a messenger dog in the Army.
