ORIGIN SIBERIA

The Siberian husky was bred about 3,000 years ago by the nomadic Indian tribe Chukchi, and used as sledding dogs. This breed was first brought to North America by fur traders around the turn of the 20th century. They are still used as sled dogs today in the North. They have become popular companion dogs as well.

APPEARANCE(S)

Siberian Huskies are medium sized dogs with a strong build. The head is triangular with a long muzzle and erect ears. The eyes can be blue, brown or one of each.

COLOR(S)


This breed is most commonly seen in white and black, white and brown, or white and red.

COAT


The Siberian husky has a medium to long outercoat that is smooth. The undercoat is dense and soft.

POSITIVES


This breed loves to play and run. They need a family that is active and can provide enough space to run and play. They are good with kids and other dogs, but they have been known to chase cats. The Siberian husky is a very gentle and loving dog for the family.

THINGS TO CONSIDER


The Siberian husky can be hard to train, so obedience training is recommended early in life. They have a need to run off leash, and will wonder off if not supervised. If left alone for to long they will howl and can become destructive.

*This is not a good breed for the first time dog owner.

IDEAL LIVING SITUATION

This breed would do well in the country or suburbs if they have a large fenced area where they can run.

HELPFUL INFORMATION/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This breed needs to be exercised daily. They also need proper grooming, and really needs to be brushed weekly.
