The Shih Tzu is considered one of the ancient breeds. This breed has always been kept as companions. Many members of ancient Chinese Royalty kept Shih Tzus as pets.

APPEARANCE(S)

The Shih Tzu has a small fine body type. They have round black eyes and medium drop ears, and the tail curls over the back. The Shih Tzu is also considered a brachycephalic breed, this refers the super short muzzle and the way the nose looks like it is smashed into the face. These dogs are more prone to breathing problems, and they will snort and sneeze frequently.

COLOR(S)


This breed is most commonly seen in black and white, tan and white, and gray and white.

COAT


The outercoat is long, straight and soft. The undercoat is dense and has the same texture as cotton balls. The coat is normally kept very long and can have a slight wave present. Often the hair on the face is long covering the eyes and needs to be tied up in a ponytail.

This breed is loves people. They are good with children and other dogs. Shih Tzus are playful and like to learn new things, as they age they love to be in their owners lap.

THINGS TO CONSIDER


The Shih Tzu is going to be more susceptible to having respiratory issues due to the very short nose. Shih Tzus snort and sneeze frequently.
