The Shiba Inu is an ancient Japanese breed. This breed has been around for more than 2000 years. They were bred and used for hunting birds and boars. They are the most popular dog breed in Japan.

APPEARANCE(S)

Shiba Inus are medium sized dogs with solid muscular build. The head is wedge shaped with erect ears and the tail is bushy and carried over the back. They have a deep chest and a moderately high tucked abdomen.

COLOR(S)


This breed is most commonly seen red, fawn, red sesame, black, and black and tan.

COAT


The outercoat is dense, coarse and straight. The undercoat is thick and much softer. The coat around the neck is heavier than any where else on the body.

Shiba Inus are smart and loving to the family. They like to learn new things, and enjoy running and hunting.

THINGS TO CONSIDER


This breed can be aggressive to children and other dogs. They do not like strangers, and they tend to be very possessive of the things and their owners.

*This is not a good breed for the first time dog owner.

This breed would do well in country.
