Rottweilers are descendants from ancient Roman cattle dogs. The Romans used Rottweilers to herd and protect cattle. In more recent times they have been used as police and military dogs.

APPEARANCE(S)

Rottweilers are large powerfully built dogs. The head is blocky with a wide forehead and drop ears. Rottweilers have distinctive tan eye brows over their amber gold eyes. The tails are normally docked.

COLOR(S)


This breed is most commonly seen in black and tan.

COAT


The coat is short, dense and shiny.

Rottweilers make excellent watch dogs. They can be aggressive to strangers and other animals. This is not a good breed for kids, unless they have been socialized with them from an early age.

This breed would do well in the country or city if exercised daily.

This breed needs to be exercised daily, and obedience trained. They are naturally protective, and without proper training they can be dangerous to small children and other animals.

FUN FACT(S)

The Rottweiler got its name from the German town of Rottweil. This was the town that most cattle drives ended.
