The Papillon originated in 17th century France, they were bred specifically to be companion dogs for European royalty. The Papillon has been seen in paintings by Rembrandt, Fragonard, and Titian.

APPEARANCE(S)

The Papillon is a small and delicate dog. The Papillon has large erect distinctive butterfly-like ears. The tail is long and carried curled over the back.

COLOR(S)


This breed is usually white with spots of any color.

COAT


The coats are long straight and silky.

FUN FACT(S)

Papillon means “butterfly” in French. They were named for the shape of their ears, Papillon without the butterfly shaped ears are called Phalenes.
