The Jack (Parson) Russell Terrier originated in England where they were bred to run alongside hunters on horseback while hunting Red fox. The Jack Russell was first bred by an English sportsman by the name of Parson Jack Russell; in 2003 the name of the breed was officially changed to Parson Russell Terrier. The Parson Russell has been kept as a companion dog in more modern times, and is known to do well in canine sports.
APPEARANCE(S)
Parson Russell Terriers are small dogs with a square compact build. The head is small and blocky with almond shaped dark eyes. The ears are drop and the tail is docked. The wiry coats Parson Russell’s sport the terrier mustached, bushy eyebrows and a short beard.COLOR(S)
This breed is most commonly seen in tan and white or black and brown, and sometimes they have all three colors.

The coat can be short and smooth, or it can be medium and wiry.

Parson Russell Terriers are very active and alert dogs. They are normally high energy indoors and out. This breed will keep you on your toes, as they are always looking for ways to get attention. This is a fun breed to own, but they require a family that can provide a constantly stimulating environment. They are generally good with children and other dogs. This breed tends to excel in canine sports, and they make great running partners.
THINGS TO CONSIDER
This breed needs to have rigorous play and exercise daily. They have a tendency to dig and they may chase cats. Parson Russell Terriers will bark at people or animals that they see.
