English Cocker Spaniels originated in the 19th century and were used to flush out Woodcocks from heavily wooded areas. Their ancestors include other field spaniels.

APPEARANCE(S)

The English Cocker Spaniel is a medium size dog with a long head and ears that hang past the shoulder and the tails are usually docked.

COLOR(S)


This breed is most commonly seen in white with black, red, liver, blue or orange markings. It is common to see freckles on the face, head and legs.

COAT


The coat is soft and silky and medium in length. The English Cocker Spaniel has feathering on the ears, belly, chest and legs. The coat can be straight or wavy.

English Cocker Spaniels are happy, loving and gentle in nature. They are great with kids and good with other animals. They enjoy family activities and love to bird hunt. They will bark at strangers but are not normally aggressive. This breed excels in obedience training and canine sports.

THINGS TO CONSIDER


English Cocker Spaniels need to have special attention paid to grooming, and keeping the ears clean. Because of the anatomy of the ears, they are more prone to infection.
