GROUP TERRIER GROUP


The Cairn terrier originated in 16th century Scotland on the Isle of Skye. They were bred to hunt for foxes, otters and rodents in the cairns (dens in the rocky cliffs). The West Highland White Terriers are close relatives to the Cairn terrier.

APPEARANCE(S)

Cairn terriers have a small stocky body. They have slightly larger heads than most terriers with erect ears and a dark muzzle. The tail is short and pointed.

COLOR(S)


This breed is most commonly seen in wheaten, red, gray, and almost black colors.

COAT


The coats are short and rough as to be weather resistant. The Cairn has a soft undercoat.
