The Bulldog originated in 19th century England where they were bred and used for the barbaric sport of bull baiting. The early Bulldog was aggressive and only kept for fighting. When bull baiting was made illegal, the breed was bred to be gentle, and became popular companion dogs.

APPEARANCE(S)

Bulldogs are short powerfully built dogs. They are low to the ground and have a very heavy build with a lot of loose skin and wrinkles. They have large heads with big jowls and ears that are semi erect. The bottom jaw is usually protruding showing a distinctive under bite. The Bulldog is considered a brachycephalic breed, this refers the super short muzzle and the way the nose looks like it is smashed into the face. These dogs are more prone to breathing problems, and they will snort and sneeze frequently.

COLOR(S)


This breed can be seen in any color except black. The most common colors are brindle, fawn and white, white, red brindle, and brindle.
