The Basenji was bred to be pack hunting dogs, and used as guides in the jungles of Africa as they would warn the hunters of any large game that might attack. The Basenjis history is said to date back to the pharaohs of Egypt, as there were wall drawings of them found in the pyramids.

APPEARANCE(S)

Basenjis have a medium built body and are quite muscular for their frame. The ears are erect and they have wrinkles on the forehead. The tail is bushy and curls over the back.

COLOR(S)

The Basenji can be tri colored, black, brindle or red. The chest, feet and tails are generally white.

COAT

Short and wiry.

This breed is very smart and always on alert. They love their owners, and love to play, run and chase. Basenjis are very good watch dogs and they require very little grooming.

Basenjis can be a little overprotective of their families, and they also will chase smaller animals.

This breed would do well in country or city.
