The Affenpinscher was originally bred to be used for pest control.  They were used to help keep the rodents out of the houses and stables in Germany. 

 

APPEARNCE         

Affenpinschers are small in size and compact in structure.  Their ears are usually semi-erect, but it is not uncommon to see erect ears. The tail is long and normally curls over the back.  The face of the Affenpinscher is said to look like a monkey, and a beard and bushy eyebrows are also commonly noted.                                    

COLOR(S) 

This breed is most commonly seen in black, silver, black and tan, gray and red.

COAT

Short and shaggy coats are the most common.

Affenpinschers are affectionate, good watch dogs, very loyal to owner, and great with kids. 

Things to Consider

Regular grooming is needed, and Affenpinschers have been to known to be quite ugly to strangers.

IDEAL LIVING SITUATION

This breed will do well in the city or in the country, and a potential owner needs to have patience in the training process.  Affenpinschers are known to adjust well with children.
