HISTORY

The Chartreux originated in France in the 1700’s, but after World War II the breed was all but extinct. Breeds were able to reestablish the breed by breeding Persian Blues and British Blues. The Chartreux was imported to the US in 1970.

APPEARANCE(S)

The Chartreux are large husky cats with broad shoulders, an oval head and short muzzle. They have large round eyes that are copper or gold, and the ears are small and sit close together. The Chartreux have small feet in proportion to their bodies, leading to them looking as if they are walking on the their tiptoes.

COLOR(S)


Chartreux have a blue-gray coat that can vary from ash to slate.

COAT


The Chartreux have a very dense and soft coat of short to medium length.

PERSONALITY

Chartreux make lovely companions, they are devoted to their owners and pretty agreeable to other animals and children. They are loving and loyal and will follow you everywhere, just to get a change to get in your lap.

GROOMING

These cats need to be brushed twice a week.
